The nearest airport is at Perugia, about an hour's drive, served by Ryanair from Stansted. Otherwise you can use the airports at Pisa or Florence, (about a two hour drive if no problems), and Rome is not much further.

Cortona is easily reached:

By car - take the A1 from Florence or Rome, and take the Val di Chiana turn-off, then follow the signs to Cortona.

By train: good connections to the Cortona-Camucia station from all three airports via Milan-Florence-Rome line.
